Air-Operated Double-Diaphragm (AODD) pumps are classified as reciprocating, positive-displacement-style pumps. They operate by displacing fluid from one of its two liquid chambers upon each stroke completion. To operate, the diaphragm pumps require a given amount of pressure (measured in pounds per square inch) and air volume (measured in cubic feet per minute) to deliver the proper amount of fluid. 

Air Operated Double Diaphragm (AODD) pumps are versatile, self-priming fluid transfer devices powered by compressed air. Known for their ability to handle a wide range of fluids—including corrosive chemicals, viscous slurries, and abrasive materials—AODD pumps are widely used across industries such as chemical processing, mining, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and wastewater treatment.

An AODD pump operates using two flexible diaphragms connected by a shaft. Compressed air alternates between the diaphragms, causing them to move back and forth. This motion draws fluid into the pump on one side while simultaneously pushing it out on the other. Check valves prevent backflow, ensuring efficient and reliable fluid movement.

Key advantages of AODD pumps include their ability to run dry without damage, handle solids without clogging, and work in hazardous or explosive environments due to their non-electrical operation. They are also easy to maintain, with minimal moving parts, and can be safely used with shear-sensitive materials.
